This page explains what information this site collects, why, and what you can do about it. It’s written in plain English, and it’s short, because this site collects very little.
Who runs this site
This site, signal-lost.co.uk (formerly igyeih.co.uk), is a personal blog run by Signal Lost. If you have a question about your data, use the contact details at the bottom of this page.
What gets collected, and why
If you just read the site: nothing is collected by the blog itself. Like every website, the hosting company (IONOS) keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited. These are used for security and for basic visitor numbers, and are kept by IONOS for a limited time.
If you leave a comment: the site stores what you type (your name, your email address and your comment), plus your IP address and browser details. This is so comments can be checked for spam and abuse before they appear. Your email address is never shown publicly.
- Comments are checked for spam by Antispam Bee, which works on this server. Your comment is not sent to any outside spam service.
- Profile pictures (Gravatar) are switched off, so your email address is not sent to Gravatar.
- Comments are kept for as long as the post they belong to, unless you ask for yours to be removed.
Cookies and things stored in your browser
- Comment cookies: if you tick the box when commenting, your name and email are saved in your browser for a year so you don’t have to type them again. If you don’t tick it, nothing is saved.
- Site settings: the theme you pick under Start > Display, whether you’ve already seen the start-up screen, and your dice roller and initiative tracker history, and any Solitaire game in progress are saved in your own browser only. They are never sent to this site.
- Visitor counter: the counter at the bottom of the page counts each visit once. To avoid counting refreshes, your browser keeps a small marker that is deleted when you close the tab. It is not a cookie, and the counter stores only a running total: no IP address, name or anything else about you.
- Now Playing: the little game indicator in the taskbar shows what the site owner is playing on Steam. The site’s server asks Steam for this; your browser never talks to Steam, and nothing about you is sent to it.
- There are no advertising, tracking or social media cookies on this site.
Who your data is shared with
Nobody, other than the hosting company that runs the server (IONOS Cloud Ltd, UK). It isn’t sold, swapped or used for advertising.
Links to other sites
Some posts and desktop shortcuts link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this site has no control over them. Links are set up so the other site is not told you came from here.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you can ask for a copy of the data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. In practice that means your comments and the details attached to them. Just get in touch.
If you’re unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
